Scores of students from different high schools across Georgetown and the University of Guyana assembled at the Education Lecture Theatre (ELT), University of Guyana, on November 14, 2018 to observe GIS Day 2018. The theme was " Visualizing Guyana with Drone Mapping Technology."

Mr. Benn highlighted the importance and relevance of GIS for effective and efficient mapping in Guyana, and that his Commission is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar project to remap the country.
Other presenters included representatives from Central Housing & Planning Authority, UG Geographical Society and of course Eco-Trust Society! Micheal Morrison, President of the Society, did an overview of drones; their benefits and real world applications for Indigenous communities and in situations of natural disasters. After the presentations had concluded, students gathered outside of the ELT to view an Unmanned Ariel Vehicle (UAV) being launched into the air.
