Eco-Trust World Food Day food drive

In celebration of World Food Day 2014, on October 16, Eco-Trust Society held a food drive where fruit salads were distributed to the needy and less fortunate. The fruits selected and prepared were all local fruits, being relevant to this year world food day theme "Family Farming: Feeding the World, Caring for the Earth". The food drive occurred at 6:30pm at the Germans Restaurant, 9 Mundy Street, North Cummingsburg, Georgetown, Guyana.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations estimates that there are about 805 million hungry people in the world.
This means they regularly do not have enough food to live an active life. Even higher is the actual number of hungry people in the world, when including those who face seasonal food shortages or those who do not eat a varied a balanced diet containing sufficient amounts of proteins, carbohydrates and vitamins.
Even though Eco-Trust society food drive was a one day event, it provided a healthy serving of fruits to go with the soup and food distributed.

At about 6:30pm, children and members of the less fortunate community started to come out in number with their bowl and waited to be fed. By 8:00pm, they all had a satisfying bowl of soup or two together with the 40 cups of fruit salad that were prepared to be distributed.
The owner of the restaurant, Mr. Clinton Urling, along with Chontelle Sewett and Joel Simpson, members of the local social change organization, Blue CAPS, also came out and participated in the activity.
