Eco-Trust Society at the New Campbellville Secondary school’s Open Career Day
The Eco Trust Society participated in the New Campbellville Secondary school’s Open Career Day on the 16th February, 2015. The team from the Eco Trust Society included the President Adrian Inniss, Lakeram Singh, Saliqa Zaman, Micaela Reece and Leandre Mangal.
The main aim of us being there was to enlighten the students and parents of the advantages and opportunities available to them by studying Environmental Sciences and Geography and that it is offered at the University of Guyana. This was done by presenting within the booth, a large poster bearing information about the courses offered within the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and through interaction by answering any questions they might have about the course requirements. A poster was also done to depict some of the job opportunities that are available in Guyana after studying any environment or geography based course.
The Eco-trust Society’s booth was also decorated with posters from national, regional and international organizations which depicted scenes from the environment which we may not have knowledge of, which are found in our own rainforest and which need to be protected. They also depicted some of the rich biodiversity which is contained within the Guianas. Some posters of resources and resource management were also displayed. The variety of posters displayed was to give an idea of the wide scope of interests available by studying these courses. Models were also displayed showing various geographical features of South America and Guyana. These models were done by students of the faculty.
At the event, the Eco Trust members chose to involve the public in its Hashtag Project which makes use of environmental slogans which are photographed with persons who agree with these slogans and are willing to show their support for these, to the wider public. It was by sheer grace that the Eco Trust Society also managed to be present while the National Communication Network was visiting the school. This afforded our President Adrian Inniss a chance to briefly explain to the media our aim as an environmental group on the University of Guyana’s Turkeyen campus and how we help to bring awareness about environmental and geographical issues affecting our nation.
