Eco-Trust Society presents its solid waste sundays

'Solid Waste Sunday' is a social media campaign started by the Eco-Trust Society to encourage members of the general public to reduce, reuse and recycle their wastes. This initiative comes in the wake of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic, where people are expected to practice health and safety procedures such as wearing masks, social distancing and quarantining. However, such activities can result in households generating more waste. As such, this project aims to promote practices that Reduce, Reuse and Recycle wastes.

1. Coconut Candle Holders made by Ms. Tajwattie Persaud
"It recycles coconut shells, old shoe laces and scrap piece of wood.
However, you would need additional stuff like a drill, polish ( for aesthetic purposes) and candles"

2. Coconut Cup and Plant Pot made by Mr. Jermin Hookumchand.
3. Reusing Plastic Containers as Plant Pots by Ms. Liza Rover
4. Reusing left over construction materials by Mr. Shawn Hookumchand
5. Cardboard Pen Holder made by Ms. Latifah Wickham
6. Using fruit waste and manure to create biogas for cooking done by Ms. Kristie Duff
Biogas is an efficient and clean fuel. It is made up of methane, carbon dioxide, hydrogen and hydrogen sulphide.
Some benefits of biogas are:
-It reduces CO2 and harmful smoke in the kitchen;
-It reduces organic wastes
-It allows households to use less kerosene and wood.
7. Hand-washing station made using household wastes that was made by Mr. Josh Xavier
"This simple handwashing device was done to reduce the amount of plastic waste that would've ended up in the environment and to also prevent the spread of the coronavirus. It was constructed using 100% household and business wastes such as plastic containers, wires, ropes and wood."
