Eco-Trust Society Participates in Consultation for ExxonMobil’s Longtail Project EIA
22 September 2025
On Monday, 22nd September 2025, the Eco-Trust Society was invited to participate in a consultation session, representing the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences. The session was facilitated by Acorn International, the consultancy responsible for conducting the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for ExxonMobil’s Longtail Project.
The Longtail Project is the newest development in the Stabroek Block and, unlike earlier projects, will focus on the production of non-associated gas and condensate. As part of the EIA process, stakeholders were given the opportunity to raise questions and share concerns regarding the project’s potential environmental and social impacts.
During the session, Eco-Trust Society members emphasised several key areas of concern that remain central to national discussions on oil and gas development in Guyana:
These contributions will now feed into the drafting of the EIA, helping to ensure that the perspectives of civil society and youth stakeholders are reflected in the review process.
For more details, we encourage you to review the fact sheets shared during the session (attached to this post), which outline ExxonMobil’s planned operations and potential impacts.
As Guyana’s oil and gas sector continues to expand, we invite you to reflect with us: What questions or concerns do you believe should be raised in consultations like this? Share your thoughts in the comments below and join the conversation on shaping a sustainable future.

- Transparency and information sharing – ensuring accessible and timely updates for all stakeholders.
- Biodiversity protection – safeguarding ecosystems that may be affected by offshore activities.
- Air quality testing – strengthening monitoring frameworks to track potential emissions and health impacts.
- Mitigation strategies – assessing ExxonMobil’s proposed measures to minimise risks associated with oil and gas production.
- Other national priorities – including climate resilience, community engagement, and long-term sustainability.
